Hardware & External Systems Integration Overview
Hardware & External Systems Integration Overview
Modern school operations extend far beyond pure web software: physical bells must ring punctually between class periods, students tap contactless ID cards at campus entry gates, and parents in rural or low-connectivity zones receive urgent attendance updates via SMS and Telegram.
YeneSchool provides a unified Hardware & Integration Gateway to orchestrate these physical and external systems seamlessly.
1. Supported Integration Channels
| Channel | Target Hardware / Service | Primary School Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Siren / Bell | ESP32, Arduino, Shelly IoT Wi-Fi Relays | Automated acoustic bells for period transitions, assemblies, and fire alarms. |
| Smart Card Kiosk | USB 13.56MHz RFID Readers, Android Web NFC | Contactless tap-and-go roll-call at campus entrance turnstiles and school buses. |
| SMS Gateways | Ethio Telecom SMS, Africa's Talking, Twilio | Instant absentee notices and emergency closures delivered to parents without internet. |
| Telegram Bots | Official Telegram Bot API | Free, zero-data-cost attendance updates, report cards, and announcements sent to parent channels. |
| OpenAPI / REST | Swagger /api/docs & OpenAPI /docs-json | Interfacing with government SIS databases, biometric turnstiles, and accounting software. |
2. Developer API & Authentication
External systems authenticate against the YeneSchool REST API using Machine-to-Machine (M2M) API Tokens:
- School Directors generate an API Key in School Settings > Integrations > API Keys.
- All HTTP requests must include the authorization header:
Authorization: Bearer ysk_live_9a7f8e... X-School-Id: cmto9vhrm000a5mqu5prgusao - API documentation with live interactive testing is available directly at
https://your-domain/api/docs.
File Upload Hardening
Defense against stored XSS, path traversal, and unauthenticated document exposure — MIME validation, UUID path hashing, and authenticated streaming proxies.
Smart Siren & Bell
Step-by-step IoT setup for automated school bells — timetable synchronization, ESP32 relay wiring, HTTP webhook triggers, and emergency siren patterns.
